S Mahadevan Thampy is among the best known names in current Malayalam fiction. An acclaimed novelist and short story writer, he is known for his deep and incisive analyses of social issues with a personal touch. His novels on Kashmir and Sri Lanka are testaments to the immeasurable beauty of empathy and creativity of the author; not just that, immaculate research and domain knowledge keep these works grounded and relatable to the common man. Thampy has already published more than ten works of fiction. His love and care for human beings and the environment in which they live suffuse every sentence he writes. Most of his novels have been serialized in premier literary magazines in Malayalam and translated into other languages including Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. A much awarded author, Thampy began his career as a journalist, after graduating in Economics and Journalism from the Delhi University. Later, he joined the Kerala government service and went on to become an Additional Director with the Information and Public Relations Department and he now serves as a media consultant.
